DJ Matt Robins hosts our regular club night, 'SHIMMER' at the Aviary. 'SHIMMER' first started in August 2025 but Matt has been spinning the tunes for many years.

DJ Matt Robins — Let the Music Do the Talking

For DJ Matt Robins, it all began in the late ’80s, helping out a local mobile party DJ. What started as carrying speakers soon turned into something more, the chance to play the last hour of the night. Those early sets were filled with the sounds of Mantronix, Ten City, Soul II Soul, Adeva etc,  the foundation of his lifelong love for soulful, vocal-driven dance music.

By the early ’90s, Matt was fully immersed in the house scene. In 1992, while hauling a box of 12” records across a car park, he met his future wife, proof that music really can change your life.

In 1995, Matt launched Storm with a friend, a club night that quickly became one of Rugby’s busiest and most loved house music events, known for its energy, atmosphere, and loyal crowd.

Matt’s sound has stayed true to his roots, vocal, funky, soulful, disco house, always focused on creating an uplifting, happy party vibe. He’s not one to chase the spotlight, instead, he prefers to let the music do the talking, blending long, flowing mixes where baselines and vocals weave effortlessly together.

These days, you’ll find Matt behind the decks at local bars, clubs, and private parties, still bringing that unmistakable warmth and feel-good energy to every set. For him, it’s simple: music should make you move, smile, and remember why you came out in the first place.
